What is AQMx?The Air Quality Management Exchange Platform (AQMx), a component of the CCAC Clean Air Flagship, is designed to be a ‘one stop shop’ for technical tools and models, data, and knowledge to build capacity among air quality managers worldwide. It aims to serve as a trusted resource, providing guidance and resources to support governments, implementers and stakeholders on the path to meeting interim targets identified in the WHO Air Quality Guidelines.Curated Guidance Resource Exchange Library Why was AQMx created? The needs assessment report "Strengthening Air Quality Management Guidance” (CAF, GHV, CCAC/UNEP - 2022) shows that a lack of technical capacity and other knowledge on air quality management is the greatest challenge facing air quality managers behind a lack of funding, particularly in underrepresented regions such as Africa, Latin America and Asia. A key finding from this global research, across 119 countries, was for increased collaboration and consolidation of global efforts around AQM guidance, and a need to improve and expand the delivery of guidance to address critical gaps. At COP28 in Dubai, the CCAC launched its Clean Air Flagship. Its goals include the promotion of “strengthening capacity at all levels of governance to advance integrated air quality and climate planning and action” including through the development of an online platform for air quality management, the AQMx. The Air Quality Management Exchange Platform (AQMx) also contributes to the implementation of the UNEA-6 resolution (UNEP/EA.6/ L.13), in which UN Member States raised the need to organize and share information to build capacity in air quality management. The resolution calls for the sharing of “relevant knowledge, information and expertise, best practices, interactive online tools and data, and air quality maps through an online platform”. AQMx serves as a reliable global resource hub, offering up-to-date information, guidance, and tools tailored to diverse capacities and local contexts. PartnersAQMx delivers easily accessible information and solutions to governments committed to clean air through BreatheLife, which is jointly led by the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC). What to expect next?AQMx will be expanded over time to include additional resources and curated guidance for Stages 2-5, as well as training modules and new features to enable peer-to-peer exchanges and regional communities of practice for air quality management. In the process of gathering and curating information for AQMx, gaps in available knowledge and tools will be identified. The CCAC and its partners will then identify ways to improve or develop new resources and guidance.
